Strategy Execution at CNH Industrial APAC

How does a new General Manager bring together eight different countries from regions as far flung as Russia, Australia and SE Asia into a cohesive team?  Most new leaders begin by bringing in new team members, but when local country and culture knowledge is critical, that is not always possible.

Stefane Pampalone decided to use an alignment process called “stratecution” (literally a joined-up strategy on a page) to align all the different regions and countries around a set of cultural norms and strategic objectives where the benefits of cross-border synergies could be realised.

The result, the APAC region delivered nearly 50% of overall group profit within two years.

A Transformation at Lycoming Engines

What happens when a global engine manufacturer for single engine aircraft with 80% market share experiences massive product defects? Near bankruptcy and lawsuits. That was the situation facing the new General Manager tasked with a critical turnaround.

Job one? Build an aligned leadership team with a digital mindset and possibility thinking. Job two? Integrate strategy and execution into a seamless process. Job three? Train and re-energize a dispirited workforce who knew the product inside and out, but needed to move into the digital age.

Using a team alignment process coupled with a strategy execution template, they improved safety and reliability, rebuilt customer confidence and brand reputation. They also won the coveted Shingo Prize for Operational Excellence three years later.

Building a Robust Cyber Security Function

Cyber security is an enterprise wide issue. Everyone is accountable. However in most organisations, cyber policies tend to focus on technology and compliance, and not people or culture. Plus, most companies see cyber security as the job of the CISO.

A European private bank needed to modernise its cyber security department and hire a new CISO. But the first job was to reshape and align all the various cyber policies and processes, improve training and bring in a digital mindset to strengthen both the physical and human firewall.

Aligning cyber policies required getting all departments and functions working together to make cyber security everyone’s responsibility. As a result, the new CISO could focus on building a digital strategy to secure the bank for the future.
